BEYOND DISTRIBUTION SECURES INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH FARPOINT FILMS
Beyond Distribution has signed an international distribution deal at Realscreen Summit with Canadian producers, Farpoint Films, to acquire a unique documentary series which follows Canada’s commercial ice fishing industry.
Ice Vikings (8 x 60’) follows the brave men and women who form part of Lake Winnipeg’s commercial ice fishing industry, worth around $25 million a year.
Facing blizzards, cracking ice and danger from every side, men and women use traditional ice fishing methods learned from their ancestors, the Icelandic Vikings, who settled near Lake Winnipeg more than 150 years ago. For many, it’s a race against time and weather to bring their catch to shore before the ice gives way.
“Ice fishing is one of the most dangerous professions in the world, and most of it takes place in one of the most unpredictable work environments on the planet”, said Kyle Bornais, President & Co-Founder of Farpoint Films. “There is big money at stake and more than 700 people set out on the ice every winter. Our series follows these ‘ice vikings’ who put their life on the line for every fish they catch.”
Justina Hemperek, Head of Acquisitions at Beyond Distribution, added:
"This is a really special series which isn’t just about fishing. It shows people who are working at the very limits of survival where one wrong move could not only affect their livelihood but also their lives. We are thrilled to be working with the team at Farpoint Films to bring this to a wider international audience.”
